As a mother you would do anything to prevent your children from suffering – right? The old cliché “What you don’t know can’t hurt you,” is obviously not accurate in our account.
My name is Bridgette Delahoussaye and I am the mother of five. I have three boys and two girls. Who would believe that both of my daughters would be diagnosed with breast cancer! I know I sure wouldn’t have believed it as my daughters were growing up. What I didn’t know, definitely hurt them.
I will be sharing this blog with my two daughters and my niece in hopes that as we share our journey, we can help others. The following will be a few of the topics I hope to discuss in my posts to come:
The grieving mother
The emotional supporter
The protector
The guilt
The fighter
Along the way, we hope to provide you with some of the resources that helped us. I also hope to provide you with interviews of people that had to go through testing because of family ties and were not BRCA 2 positive - How they felt and why they did it. As our story unfolds, you will see how your life can change, how you can take control, and how cancer does not have to define you. This blog is not just for women, the BRAC2 gene does not discriminate. Many men will be able to benefit from our story, if not for themselves, for the people in their lives.
Until next time, Stay Strong and Be at Peace!
